The Kentucky Hotel is an inspiring example of Federal-style architecture, and a remarkable survival for a 19th Century structure that was so important to the early economic and social growth of Lynchburg, VA. Originally built as a private residence prior to 1800, it was converted into a Hotel in 1814, and was one of 16 ordinaries that housed travelers during the early growth of the city. It’s significant in its conservatism and refined good taste, and retains a surprising number of its original features and details. Impressively, it continues as a commercial structure, and its unique, and separate character carry on.
