Originally named for General Anthony Wayne, the area was first recognized by the state of Virginia in 1801. Waynesboro residents enjoy a wide variety of activities within the community including the Annual Fall Foliage Festival in October and well as the annual commemoration of the 1865 civil war battle that ended the war in the Shenandoah Valley. Residents also have access to cultural arts through the P. Buckley Moss Museum, Shenandoah Valley Art Center, and the Artisans Center of Virginia. Waynesboro residents enjoy beautiful four-season weather with average temperatures in the summer of 83.4°F and in the winter of 44.9° F.
